I’m Not Sure What This Instrument Is…But This Dude Can Shred It

If you live in a big city, odds are that you’ve seen a street performer with a harmonica in his mouth and a drum at his feet. And while that seems like some pretty epic multitasking, it’s nothing compared to what this guy can do.

The instrument he’s playing is an American Fotoplayer. Primarily used between the years of 1912 and 1925, it was specifically designed to create sound effects and live scoring for silent films.

Using a series of foot pedals, organs, whistles, drums, and bells, this guy absolutely shreds at making wackadoo chase music you might hear in a Looney Tunes short.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

American Fotoplayer

We discovered an interesting instrument on tour in the US – an American Fotoplayer! Should we take it with us to our next performances in Seattle, Portland, L.A. and San Francisco?

Unfortunately for the Fotoplayer business, sound films made them pretty much obsolete. It’s a rare treat to see one actually played, as there are currently fewer than 50 that have survived — only 12 of which are actually playable!

R.I.P. Prince…But Is His Death Part Of A Massive Conspiracy Involving Chemtrails?

The world was shocked this week to learn of the death of award-winning musician Prince. At the time of this writing, the cause of Prince’s death has not been released to the public, but there is plenty of speculation out there. While, of course, reasonable explanations have arisen, there are also the slightly unhinged explanations for Prince’s death flooding social media.

The craziest so far has got to be from Alex Jones over at Infowars. Jones believes that Prince may have been the victim of a government conspiracy. The reason? His outspoken opposition to the phenomenon known as chemtrails

Yesterday, Jones’ website ran an article with the headline: “Did The Chemtrail Flu Kill Prince And Merle Haggard?”

The article goes on to speculate that Prince may have been suffering from a mysterious illness known as “Chemtrail Flu.” That is, an unknown flu-like illness said by conspiracy theorists to be spread via chemtrails.

As evidence, Jones cites an April 21 news story from TMZ that reported Prince’s jet needed to make an unscheduled landing in Illinois on April 15 due to a medical emergency.

The following day, Prince supposedly told his fans at a concert that he was battling the flu.

The final piece of evidence Jones presents is this 2010 interview in which Prince speaks out against chemtrails and speculates as to their purpose.

Hmm, now that is an interesting theory. The question, though, is does it have any basis in reality? He may have suffered from some odd strain of flu, but one spread via chemical agents in jet trails? Probably not. I think we’ll just have to accept that Prince passed away for no good reason. Life is terrible like that sometimes.

R.I.P. Prince.

This Man Keeps Playing The Piano As The World Literally Falls Down Around Him

No matter what your personal politics happen to be, denying the existence of climate change is pretty hard to do at this point.

And that’s made even clearer when footage like this comes to light. Last month, composer Ludovico Einaudi created a piece called “Elegy for the Arctic” to raise awareness about the havoc climate change is wreaking on Earth’s northernmost point.

To drive his message home, he simply set up a grand piano among towering glaciers and played as they fell around him.

Through this project, Einaudi hopes to “turn into music the voices of the eight million people who ask for Arctic protection.”

What Astronauts Heard On The Moon Is Incredibly Eerie — Is This For Real?

Going to the moon is a goal for almost every astronaut, and in the late 1960s, humans accomplished that goal for the first time. It was a monumental technological breakthrough. Many people thought that we would never do it, but in the heat of the Cold War, America made it to the moon.

On our journeys since, some irregularities have occurred. Take these sounds, for example. Bizarre noises were heard on the dark side of the moon, and as you’ll hear in the video below, they were absolutely chilling.

(via Unexplained Mysteries)

If that doesn’t give you the willies, I don’t know what will. I have to hand it to those brave astronauts for going up there. Space travel is clearly creepy.
