About Album

Daniel Blake’s debut EP “Circle Mountain” paints vivid pictures of love, loss and life. Fingerpicking and ambient tones work together to create a beautiful escape and leaves the listener wanting more.  The Title was pulled from Track 2 “Any Way the Wind Blows” and references a place where embers from the past are spread, a suitable picture to capture the tone of the album.

For The Rush

Highway raceway
Eighty in a fastback mustang
Windows down drown the sound of the radio up
Quick stop pit stop
Grab a twelve and jump in don’t stop
Stupid kids raisin hell till the sun comes up

Lookin back on life and what we had

For all we knew it was our time
liberty was a wide line
We didn’t think of the pain that was headed for us
We were living for the rush

Late night bonfire
Just beyond the busted barbwire
Take my hand and I show you how to get in
Moon lit soft kiss baby you should know I’ll miss this
And if I had the chance I’d do it again

Lookin back on life and what we had

For all we knew it was our time
liberty was a wide line
We didn’t think of the pain that was headed for us
We were living for the rush

But I took that car and I drove it straight
across that line and I told you to wait
Cause I’m coming back
I know I’m coming back
It’s been three years since you moved on
Fire pits are flooded and the flame is gone
But I’m coming back
I’m always coming back

Looking back on life and what we had

For all we knew it was our time
liberty was a wide line
We didn’t think of the pain that was headed for us
We were living for the rush
We were living for the rush
We were living for the rush

Anyway The Wind Blows

Early morning drawing pictures
Rolling hills and mountain tops
You were there as just a notion
For a feelin that I never got

And I know
Nothing gonna hold you down

You and her were on the edges
Midnight trips and parking lots
Settled down with life expected
But that freedom you never lost

And I know
Nothing gonna hold you down
you go
Any way the wind blows

Twenty one and ordinary
Found another who will hold my name
Morning bells and I was was waiting
For a moment but you never came

And I know
Nothin’ gonna hold you down
you go
Any way the wind blows

Hoooooo hoooo hoooooo hooo hooo

Hoooooo hoooo hoooooo hooo hooo

Cigarettes and whiskey women
Motel rooms and sleepless nights
On the floor is where they found you
With a picture from another life

I know
Nothing gonna hold you down

Took you out to circle mountain
Held your body in my brass
Spread your embers down the valley
Moment come and then it passed

And I know
Nothing gonna hold you down
you go
Any way the wind blows

Far

We were just kids at the border of eighteen
Driving in the fast lane
Headed out for the edge of the night
And I know
There were talks about giving up daydreams
Cause that’s where
I was lost in the sound and the light

Walking away from the sound of a car crash
Had me sweating bullets
Headed out for the edge of the night
And I know
There were talks about giving up on me
Cause that’s where
I was lost in the sound and the light

And you know that I
I’v done all I can to get back to you
I’m floating away so far from view
But I can’t make it back to you
I’m floating away and I’m so far
I’m so far

We were just kids at the border of eighteen
well nothing lasts forever
One of us headed out for the night
And I know
There were talks about giving up on me
Cause that’s where
I was lost in the sound and the light

And you know that I
I’v done all I can to get back to you
I’m floating away so far from view
But I can’t make it back to you
I’m floating away and I’m so far
I’m so far

Floating away so carelessly
One of us was breaking free
And I don’t want to let you down
Floating away and now I see
It was either you or me
And I don’t want to let you down
But I’m so far
I’m so far

California

Time moves faster than you could know
You make your list and then you’re on your own
Well dreams come fast but then they’re slow to find
California am I on your mind
California am I on your mind

Well it goes easy at first but then you see
you’re on your feet and then you’re on your knees
You pray to god if he could make it right
California won’t you be the light
California won’t you be the light

Rain comes rollin in
With the wind
They tell you it’s too late
Fall so far behind
And everyone is happier than me

You take that poison and you drink it down
A couple years and you’ll be on the ground
You close your eyes and all you see is black
California won’t you take it back
California won’t you take me back

Rain comes rollin in
With with the wind
They tell you it’s too late
Fall so far behind
And everyone is happier than me

Time moves faster than you could know
You make your list and then you’re own you own

All I Need

Take your head and rest it on my heart beat
Take those cares and let them fall
Make a moment and save it for a memory
Like a picture on a wall

Well it aint quite the way we planned it
Slamming doors and crowded halls
On a plane that never landed
We’re still waiting for the fall

But you look at me I
Don’t feel like coming down
Lucky for me I
Know I won’t hit the ground

I belong to you
You belong to me
It’s all I need
I belong to you
You belong to me
It’s all I need

If we woke up in a canyon
With our fait carved on that stone
wouldn’t leave or take for granted
That in you I have my home

But you look at me I
Don’t think iv fallen down
Lucky for me I
Know I won’t hit the ground

I belong to you
You belong to me
It’s all I need
I belong to you
You belong to me
It’s all I need

Album Reviews

On "For The Rush:" The positive vibes in this track from Daniel Blake pervade. Yes it’s ultimately nostalgic, but it’s the kind of “looking back on another time of life” moment that feels more good than sad. Like yeah this thing happened, but aren’t we SO GLAD that it happened? It’s not looking back with regret, but looking back acknowledging something beautiful. I love the sentiment and the composition.

Ear To The Ground Music

Circle Mountain is the sound of an artist getting the balance between old and new just right. Across five songs Daniel Blake explores the age old themes of love, loss, longing… life and does so in a way that feels intimate and wholly personal whilst being ultimately relatable to anyone listening. California is a shimmering ballad that is a tribute to the place that he now calls home, Any Way The Wind Blows follows in some emotive cosmic country footsteps and Far is the gentlest of songs writ large across the biggest musical canvas imaginable.

Dancing About Architecture

The beautiful fingerpicking of DANIEL BLAKE’s single ‘For The Rush’ brings you to the memories of patched excitements and the nostalgic passions that drove the artist and the world he belied. The bright streets of love, loss, and possibilities, dragged the sensibilities of the unknown; peppering images of a foregone conclusion, with the speckles of the goodness. Daniel’s communication of contrasts, of happiness in words and the melancholic embodiments in his instrument, tell the tale that is very much human. Just like a fleeting memory, the smiles of joy that springs up from it, is always dowsed with the realities of the present. It’s just the way it is. It is what we do in our hearts. And Daniel wants us to know that, that is okay. The debut EP ‘Circle Mountain’ is a painting of indelible yearnings. The album is a beautiful statement of sentiments that lies just underneath us all.
