2010 Summer concerts in MA we're watching: Huey Lewis, Counting Crows, B-52s and uh, American Idol!!

Our boring lives come somewhat resurrected in the Summer time. We hibernate in the Winter, save money in the Fall and Spring so we can watch concerts in the Summer or take a vacation somewhere if we get lucky!

We have always been upfront on the site that though we have followed AI, we have never been so attached to any contestant in all 9 seasons– if not for Didi, we would not have been following American Idol like it’s the freakin’ best thing that’s ever happened to television!

If not for Didi, we would have found other uses of our spare time- like saving the world or just getting some decent sleep! Instead, we dedicate our spare time, energy and money maintaining this website.

On a year where AI is going down, we would have stopped watching a long time ago…

So you see, there is something a little bit embarrassing when we tell people we are going to watch our first ever American Idol concert in its weakest season ever! Not Kelly Clarkson, not Carrie Underwood, heck not Taylor Hicks- not even Chris Daughtry, David Cook or Adam Lambert convinced us to watch the previous Idol tours. In the year of Tim, Aaron, Michael and Katie- we decided to attend. Go figure. We argued, yes but there is also Casey James, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox, Siobhan Magnus and Didi Benami!!

Comments go from “You’re joking, right?” “you are paying to watch Tim Urban and Aaron Kelly?” “Shouldn’t THEY pay people to watch?”

Well, that might already be true! They have been giving away American Idol tickets for FREE almost! Idol ran a $25.00 $20.00 (regular about $50.00) per ticket sale while supply last since three weeks ago- so far we are still finding the offer online. After tax, the total would be around $28-30!

The idols have been advertising the concert massively on TV and radio, and for the first time, are even hosting a live chat to promote the tour. Notice how the Idols are also so alive on Twitter? That’s making buzz for the tour.

2010 capecod summer concerts lineupThe producers are apprehensive. We would be too. How do you fill a stadium with a seating capacity of approximately 19,000 in HSBC Arena in New York or the Staples Center in Los Angeles ? Even the 5,000 seating at Etess Arena in Atlantic City, NJ might be hard to fill. 49-city tour, that’s a lot of people! In this economy? The Top 10 lineup?!

2010 Summer Concerts

Our boring lives come somewhat resurrected in the Summer time. We hibernate in the Winter, save money in the Fall and Spring so we can watch concerts in the Summer or take a vacation somewhere if we get lucky!

Our taste in music is wide and varied but we are way past attending a Lady Gaga show. The concerts we have attended over the years [insert Daughtry (as a band, awesome!) Greenday, Phil Collins, Kenny Loggins, Matchbox Twenty, Alanis Morissette, Lyle Lovett, Journey, Blondie, Fleetwood Mac, America, The Beach Boys, U2, Sting, Collective Soul, Hootie and the Blowfish] will show there isn’t any room for an American Idol concert. It just doesn’t fit the uh “profile.” Sigh. What Didi Benami can do to people.

Huey Lewis & The News

Saturday, July 17th 2010 7:30 PM

Huey Lewis & the News continue to be one of America’s most popular pop/rock bands with their unpretentious, honest, thoroughly entertaining performances. Their driving, party-hearty spirit make songs like “If This Is It,” “Workin’ for a Livin’,” “I Want a New Drug,” “The Heart of Rock & Roll,” “Stuck With You,” “Jacob’s Ladder,” “Hip to Be Square,” “Heart and Soul,” ” Perfect World,” and “The Power of Love” memorable hits.

Counting Crows’ Traveling Circus & Medicine Show

With: Featuring Augustana & other Special Guests

Saturday, August 14th 2010 8:00 PM

“August” and “Everything After” instantly established the Counting Crows and frontman Adam Duritz as the heirs apparent to the Van Morrison/Bob Dylan/Bruce Springsteen songwriting tradition. Beginning with their 1993 smash single “Mr. Jones,” the Counting Crows have produced five albums, snagged Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations, had their song “Accidently In Love” featured in the motion picture Shrek 2, and sold more than 20 million records. According to Rolling Stone, “The Crows bridge the worlds of rock, folk, and soul with an emphasis on living-room intimacy,” and it doesn’t get more intimate than the Cape Cod Melody Tent.

The B-52s

Saturday, August 21st 2010 8:00 PM

The first band to glorify pop culture, The B-52s remain the most unlikely rock stars ever. Celebrating the weirdness lurking just beneath the surface of Americana, the bouffant-topped, go-go dancing, manic mavens of kitsch turned their own concentrated craziness into genuine hits. Their danceable music made “the whole shack shimmie!” Their body of work is unique, beloved, and timeless in its own way. So join us at the Melody Tent and “Party out of Bounds” with a “Rock Lobster” on “Planet Claire,” or “Roam” over to the “Love Shack” in “Private Idaho” for fun that’s out of this world!
